Mark Anders is a soldier in France in the First World War when he meets Sean Courtney. After the war he works a number of jobs following the murder of his grandfather and the theft of his estate. Later, he is employed by Sean and the two form a close bond. It is then that Mark falls in love with Storm, but is rejected by her because of his social status. Recovering from his heartbreak, he turns his attention to the mystery of who murdered his grandfather, and finds out it was part of Dirk Courtney’s plan to take over the Natal farming industry and destroy the Courtney legacy. He is briefly married to Marion Littlejohn, but she is mauled to death by a lioness. Later, he reconnects with Storm, who is more reciprocal to his attention, and the two marry. He then takes on Dirk Courtney and saves Chaka Gate.
